Because of this, muscle pain occurs and using relevant muscles would be painful.   - Sprains -   Injury that tendon is excessively overstretched or torn. Pain and expansion joints & restriction of joint motion are accompanied.   - Fracture -   Fracture is caused by direct pressure to the bone, twist, flexure. Also stress fracture can occur because of repeated impact for a long time.   - Tendinitis -   Tendinitis happens when tendon that connects muscle to bone gets cracked and inflamed by continuous impact. The most common places are; elbow, shoulder, wrist etc.           ☯ Difference between professional and amateur golfer                         Amateur Golfer Professional Golfer Cause of injuries ⋅ Exhaustive exercise ⋅ Bad golf swing ⋅ Over- swing Excessive stress Average length of injury 5-12 weeks on average ⋅ Male : 9 weeks on average ⋅ Female : 3 weeks on average Most commonly injured area ⋅ Lower back, waist (35%) ⋅ Elbow (33%) ⋅ Hand, wrist (12%) ⋅ Hand, wrist (37%) ⋅ Lower back, waist (24%) ⋅ Shoulder (10%)           ☯ Injured part       Rotator cuff muscles which surround the shoulder and related tendons could be inflamed and cracked by overusing and improper swing. Shoulder injuries can be prevented by training golf swing that puts less pressure on rotator cuff muscles.     Excessive stress on spine strains facet joints. Swing dependent on a direct physical POWER, not a rhythm leads to back injury due to overpowering.         Muscles contract simultaneously when golfer makes a transition from backswing to downswing. Particularly, because of excessive wrist motion, tendons that connect to the elbow are overstretched and tendinitis easily occurs. There is a possibility of occurrence of tendinitis since impact caused by repulsive power when hitting the ball is absorbed by the elbow. (Golf Elbow)         Injuries commonly occur in the area where tendons that muscles are connected to the bones of the fingers and extensor retinaculum of wrist are crossed. Gripping the club too tight causes finger tendinitis.   < Dunsan Korean Medicine Hospital of Daejeon University>   http://en.djuds.or.kr                                  ☯ What is sinusitis   Paranasal sinuses are the spaces inside the face. There are four parts.    ⋅ Maxillary sinuses : surround the nasal cavity    ⋅ Ethmoidal sinuses : between the eyes and the nose    ⋅ Frontal sinuses : Around forehead above the eyebrows    ⋅ Sphenoidal sinuses : behind the ethmoids.   These four parts are filled with air.   Paranasal sinuses are connected to the nasal cavity which is the space inside the nose and the structures are similar between paranasal sinuses and the nasal cavity. If outlet of paranasal sinuses swells up and is blocked by sinus cold, nasal inflammation, aggravation of rhinitis, nasal mucus cannot be excreted, the mucus turns into pus and this is called rhinosinusitis. If paranasal sinuses become infected by a pus-filled sinus, inflammation gets worse and pus becomes more viscous. This condition is called sinusitis.             ☯ Symptoms      ⋅ Have a slight fever & a blocked and runny nose    ⋅ Nasal congestion is getting worse & mucus drains down the back of nose into throat    ⋅ Coughing a lot when you're about to get a sleep or you wake up    ⋅ Headache & Have a dull feeling in the head    ⋅ Pain below the eyes    ⋅ Have a nosebleed a lot & loss of smell    ⋅ Develop into a middle ear infection    ⋅ Mattery eyes           ☯ Cause   Because of rhinitis and cold, nose is inflamed. In addition, due to edema, nose gets congested from too much mucus and this inflammation adversely affects mucous membrane of paranasal sinuses. Therefore, paranasal sinuses that air should get in is inflamed. Furthermore, if an opening is closed, rhinosinusitis occurs.   In the case of young children, nose is blocked filled with mucus because of tonsillitis, adenoidal hypertrophy, pharyngitis etc and this causes sinusitis.   Also, deviated nasal septum that is the nasal septum -the bone and cartilage in the nose- is displaced and various rhinitis can cause sinusitis.           ☯ Age of occurrence   Sinusitis occurs in children the age of 4 to 10. This is because not only young children physiologically have weak resistance but also their paranasal sinuses are not perfect morphologically, so they are sensitive to external influences.   Sinusitis is suspected is child has symptoms as follows;    . Continuous sinus cold (Over two weeks)    . Long-term of coughing after having cold (Over 10-14 days)    . CFS : Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
[ Date : 2013-08-05, Hit : 3,617 ]
< Dunsan Korean Medicine Hospital of Daejeon University>   http://en.djuds.or.kr               ⊙ CFS : Chronic Fatigue Syndrome   CFS (Chronic Fatigue Syndrome) is a severe disease that an inexplicable fatigue, lassitude and general weakness continue or repeat over 6 months. It doesn't improve by plenty of rest and degrades not only professional, social and personal efficiency but brain activities such as memory and concentration.         ⊙ What are some common complications?   Apart from being easily exhausted, symptoms of CFS include low-grade fever, sleep disorder(insomnia or hypersomnia), headache, aprosexia, depression, anxiety, anorexia, throat pain, muscle pain, arthralgia , swollen lymph nodes in neck or armpit. Among these, CFS is commonly accompanied by over two or three symptoms.         ⊙ What causes Chronic Fatigue Syndrome?   Multiple mechanisms of several factors (a virus infection, physical, psychological and biological stress, hormone and central nervous system disorders) lead to confused immune system. In this process, immune complex that attacks itself is created. In some cases, blood volume supplying the brain might be reduced and this is because physiological incrementality of internal organs and yin and yang is disrupted.         ⊙ How does CFS start?   In some patients, it starts with feeling like not getting over the flu. In some cases, a psychological trauma (e.g. car accident, being laid off) can be a trigger action that leads to CFS. Since CFS is long-lasting and gradually developed problem, most patients don't know when and how did CFS start.         ⊙ How long does CFS last?   Partly, CFS might heal by itself but mostly it lasts 3 to 6 years or even over 10 years. CFS may relapse in every few years cycle or may last forever.         ⊙ Age Group   The greatest occurrence of CFS is in 25 to 45. However, it can occur in the young students or the middle-aged.         ⊙ Is it contagious?   There is no accurate proof but CFS is not transmitted to family or surrounding people. However, CFS somewhat displays genetic predisposition and the reason why is that CFS is closely related to problems with the immune system that's associated with gene.         ⊙ How to treat CFS?   In Western medicine, since the cause of CFS hasn't been established, there's no drug yet. On the other hand, in Korean medicine, through an aggressive therapy that improves internal organs and immune system and proper management, CFS can be cured.   1. Get plenty of rest and avoid stress. 2. Express feelings as honestly as possible and try not to think again. 3. Avoid excessive drinking, chain smoking, coffee or drug dependence, using computer,     watching a lot of TV or going to bed late. 4. It's advisable to do adequate physical activity or exercise. It's rather harmful to do     strenuous exercise. 5. It might helpful to meditate or do hypogastric breathing for mind and body rest and     control of energy and blood flow. 6. Keep a symptom diary to understand personal characteristic accurately.         ⊙  Korean Medicine Treatment   1. Taegeuk Acupuncture    : Acupuncture therapy based on constitution. It improves the flow of energy and balances      the internal organs.   2. Herbal acupuncture    : Apply herbal acupuncture that recovers immunity on spots on the body suitable for acupuncture.   3. Cupping    : Remove extravasated blood so clean the blood.   4. GwanWon moxibustion    : Preserve energy by gathering it at spots on the body suitable for acupuncture so-called Myeonmun.   5. Aroma Therapy    : Activate the function of internal organs by stimulating the blood circulation and the flow of energy.   6. Herbal Medicine    : According to the constitution and symptoms, we prescribe different kinds of herbal medicine      as follows :          肺脾氣虛型(PyebiKiheohyeong)     - Suffer from low energy as opposed to healthy-looking appearance.   < Dunsan Korean Medicine Hospital of Daejeon University>   http://en.djuds.or.kr/                 ◈ Obesity    Obese people tend to die young and get adult diseases easily. Obesity is not simply fat and people who are slim on the outside may be obese inside. Obesity is a condition in which the percentage of body fat is relatively higher than muscle quantity. Therefore, obesity results from not only excess body fat but also small amount of muscle. Severe obesity leads to hardening of the arteries, high blood pressure, diabetes, stroke, arthritis and diverse pain disorders.         ◈ Complications of obesity   High blood pressure, angina, myocardial infarction, hyperlipidemia, diabetes, a respiratory disease, musculoskeletal disorder, endocrine disorders, mixed anxiety-depression        ◈ Body fat percentage BMI (Body Mass Index) was widely utilized as a standard of judgement. However, BMI was just an external indicator of obesity. It was not fully an accurate standard of obesity since it classifies obesity if the person's weight exceeds a certain range in relation to height. Dunsan Korean Medicine Hospital measures an accurate body composition (body water, protein, minerals, body fat) and uses it as an evidence of obesity.        ◈ Diet & Exercising For the successful weight loss, obesity treatment need to go side by side with a dietary treatment and exercise. A long-term calorie limit without exercise damages to muscle.   Moderate weight loss is like this ; 0.6 pounds (lb) by reducing the amount of food and 1 pound (lb) by exercising per week. To reduce 0.6 pounds (lb), reduce 20 percent daily food intake and do not eat snack.   Once patient reduces food intake, it's easy to be a lack of essential nutrients such as vitamin, minerals and protein. So patient should eat a lot of vegetables and beans for balance of nutrients.   Because not drinking water while losing weight is highly risky for water metabolism so drinking a lot is needed. To reduce 0.4 pounds (lb), do exercises such as walking, jogging, swimming that can continue to exercise for over 20 minutes. Gently increase in exercise intensity.   Particularly, severe obese patient exercising without supervisor could be dangerous. In this case, for successful treatment, patient'd better consult with specialist about types of exercise, hours, intensity.         ◈ Successful Weight Loss   Losing weight successfully is required two conditions; intake less food than the amount of energy needed for the body and increase consumption of energy by adequate exercise. Early period on diet, despite of losing weight, percentage of body fat is rather increased, and this is because that weight loss caused by reduction of water retention in the body occurs a lot, on the other hand, the quantity of reduced body fat is minuscule.   After 1 to 3 weeks, gradually fat is broke down and used for energy source. In this period, body fat is reduced and percentage of body fat is also down. Therefore, to get satisfactory results, having patient and making steady and persistent effort are needed.         ◈ Obesity management at Dunsan Korean Medicine Hospital   - Acupuncture Therapy - Apply acupuncture that suppresses appetite and breaks down body fats.     - Physical Therapy - Induce secondary breaking down of fat by using several machines that help to break down the body fat, to treat by regulation pressure and by water pressure.     - Bowel Washout- Help make patients' bowel movements smooth by relieving constipation and excretion of feces.     - Drug Treatment- Through prescription of herbal medicines on the basis of constitution, take Korean Medicine dispensed by individual's characteristic.     - Dietary Treatment- After dietary counseling with nutritionist, receive advice on constant dietary control.     - Exercising- Provide scientific exercise prescription under the direction and supervision of sports curer.

In the past, there are two different types of this therapy. One method was catching the bees and using them alive. The other was pulling bee stings out and injection bee venom into an affected area. These ways, however, could be risky because it was hard not only to adjust quantity and concentration of bee venom but also objectify and generalize the treatment. Therefore, it could cause shock.         < Efficacy of bee venom >   Melittin and apamin which are the main ingredients of bee venom and are a sort of protein have a strong anti-inflammatory action. The reason is that there is a person who gets hives and has difficulty in breathing in every 10,000 patients. Patient who received bee venom therapy after allergy testing sometimes shows signs of swollen and itchiness on an affected area. This is, however, an immune reaction like a cold and flu after receiving vaccinations. Moreover, this reaction will clear up in no time so patient doesn't need to worry. Ice pack would be helpful but food such as alcohol, pork and chicken should be avoided. (These kinds of food could cause skin allergies.)
